Futuristic Prints

My Balenciaga top

My Balenciaga again

Rodarte S/S 2010

Versace S/S 2010

Kate Moss, Annabelle Neilson & Naomi Campbell all in Alexander McQueen

I loooove my Balenciaga from a 2007 collection and recently I have dug it out of my wardrobe and am wearing it all the time. I was very drawn to the print when I orignally saw it a few years ago, but I think it's taken time for the world to embrace the tribal/futuristic print and now my Balenciaga is bang on trend! The McQueen A/W 2009 collection featuring jewel like prints was huuuuuge, and since then tribal/futuristic print have just emerged and developed as more and more designers have embraced them and injected them into their lines over and over. I am going to be wearing my Balenciaga all summer with sunnies, shorts and wedges.

Wimbledon beginnings

Classic towel that I shall almost certainly be picking up! The same design the players use during Wimbledon

Links of London Strawberry Sweetie Bracelet made especially for Wimbledon

Roger Federer look fabulous in 2008

Equally as fabo in 2009

I love love love sports (I'm writing this whilst watching Uruguay and S.A play footie- Uruguay just scored a blinder!) so I'm loving the buzz in England surrounding the World Cup at the minute. However, my true allegiance is to Wimbledon- I watch the tennis Championships every year no matter where I am and have always wanted to go. To satisfy this need to eat strawberries and cream, drink Pimms/champagne whilst watching Nadal or Federer bang a ball between white lines on grass, I applied to work there during the tournament.
Luckily for me I got the job and yesterday I found myself wondering around the heart of the London Tube trying to work out if I should be at Kensington Olympia, West Kensington, South Kensington or High Street Kensington. Turns out I was actually supposed to be at Earl's Court...

After eventually finding my way to the Wimbledon Tennis Club I was immediately thrown into a full day's training. I discovered that I am working in the Court 1 shop area, specialising in the sunglasses section (pretty happy with that pick of the hat). Learning about the sunglasses was interesting- the frames are all able to fit corrective lenses, they're favoured and endorsed by Boris Becker and some designs even encompass Swarovski Crystals! I really want the Boris Becker aviators (above) as well as an iconic Wimbledon towel and the specially made Links of London strawberry sweetie bracelet.

So if anybody is going to be watching tennis at Wimbledon this year I suggest you come to the Court 1 shop -the biggest one might I add- and pick up some goodies before they run out, because they almost always do! I'm looking out for what lovely outfit Roger Federer will be wearing this year, and I'll update about how it all went soon.

Let's FACE IT

"Let's FACE IT"

Scarf- Louis Vuitton
Shirt- Zara
Skirt- Topshop
Sandals- Topshop

Jane
Dress- 202 (A Boutique in Newcastle)
Earrings- Forever 21

eye shadow- Bobbi Brown long wear cream shadow in "burnished"
bronzer- Bobbi Brown shimmer brick compact in "bronze"
lipstick- MAC satin lipstick in "myth"

Chanel Lipstick- Rouge Coco 5

Grazia and Bloomingdale's hosted an event "Let's FACE IT" to sample Bloomingdale's beauty department products this summer. I was equipped with a make up sheet to fill in with products I liked, my favourites were both Bobbi Brown and MAC (see image).

Whilst the make up testing was going down, Magnolia Bakery mini cupcakes were being passed around as well as graffiti artists doing their thang live and DJ Bliss banging out some beats. I managed to scavenge a red velvet cupcake and a creamy chocolate cupcake, they were INCREDIBLE, it was worth going to the event for the cuppycakes alone!

I was given a goodie bag in the traditional and world renowned style of Bloomingdale's "little brown bag". Again, the bag alone would have made me quite content (Graphic designers are highly excited by typefaces and fonts). In my bag was a very cute mini Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick, some boys smelly stuff (boo) as well as a free manicure, make up 101 and make over courtesy of Bloomingdale's Dubai! My friend Jane and I were snapped a few times for Grazia magazine so we'll have to see if we make it in the next few weeks! :)

Armani Cafe

Dress- Derek Lam
Bag- Zara
(Although you can hardly see thanks to blackberry photography)

Yesterday, my Mama dearest and I stopped off at the Armani Caffe in Mall of the Emirates, Dubai, for a much needed shopping break. We usually stick to Starbucks for coffee breaks but my Mum was feeling generous so we upgraded. I had a MASSIVE Shirley Temple that left me full but completely satisfied, ready to shop again. This place is a perfect set up for a cocktail bar but as it's located in a mall it doesn't serve alcohol so lends itself perfectly to late afternoon drinks with friends.

Gold

Chanel "Gold Lamé" (440) Le Vernis Nail Colour

I'm hopeless at painting my nails hence the bumpyish surface of them in the photos here...yikes- but I do it anyway! The colour changes whenever it hits the light- perfect for summer. It's limited edition so I would advise anyone who likes it to snap it up quick!

Intimate Moments

This editorial for i-D magazine photographed by Kayt Jones immediately caught my eye because of the raw realism of sensuality between these two models. True intimacy is evident in the photos without elements of nudity and blatant sexuality. Intimacy is further expressed purely by the styling of the shoot; the settings are casual and the viewpoint voyeuristic. The editorial just reminded me of the kind of things I do with my boyfriend- talk to him while I'm getting ready to go out and whispering to each other in public.
After reading up a bit the models Behati Prinsloo and Jamie Strachan, I discovered that they are in fact real life boyfriend-girlfriend! Evidently the intimacy is shown so effectively because of their relationship in reality- truly beautiful to see :) loves it.

Ahoy Sailor

Shirt & Trousers- Zara
Leopard Print Bracelet- Forever 21
Wedges- Topshop

Thought I'd try and be extra smart and play on the empty pool setting by wearing a nautical themed outfit! Zara is perfect for clothes that are casual yet tailored and sophisticated. My striped shirt is a timeless staple of my wardrobe that I have had for aaaages but the trousers are recently bought; they're perfect for summer as they're really light but still smarten up a loose tee or vest- i heart them.

Keith Carter Photography

One of my favourite photographers is Keith Carter- often for graphic design I have to think about every single detail of a design and its presentation which becomes stressful and quite restricted! I'm not saying Carter doesn't consider composition and subject matter (I am sure he does thoroughly) but his photography to me seems so relaxing, free and just aesthetically beautiful

Although it is often quite eerie or haunting, Carter's photography seems like a collection of items, places and people that appeal to him visually. I want to take photographs like him, ones that aren't necessarily perfect- unintended and accidental flaws are the best ones...
